The Growing Up Game
If you are looking for an activity that is fun, but at the same time educational here is your chance!
The Growing Up Game, a game suitable for all ages.
Participants
are separated in groups. The game has a facilitator on the role of "the
parents" and participants on the group have the role of the
"kids".
The activity has three stages. In the first stage, participants are the "kids". In the second, they are the "teenagers". In the third, they are the "grown-ups". The facilitator gives instructions and participants must repeat and follow them.
Back in the first stage, the facilitator gives simple instructions to the group. When he/she indicates to "take a step forward", “the kids” do not repeat and do the opposite. This is a representation of children’s reaction to an instruction that they refuse to follow.
In the next
stage, the group acts like the teenagers. So, when the facilitator says,
"take a step to the right", the teenagers repeat the instruction, but
they don’t follow it.
In the final stage, the group acts like the grownups. Now, when the facilitator says "take a step to the left", the grownups do not repeat the instruction, but they do what the facilitator says. This is a reaction indicating that they comprehend what is the right thing to do, but without a will to express it.
The
objective of this activity is to have fun, to stimulate critical thinking and to
empower perception through role playing.
