The River of Life
Working on a group, can
sometimes get intimidating, or stressful. There are many methods and activities
that could work as an icebreaker, and the River of Life is one of the most
successful and creative activities that I have used.
This is a very emotional
and important activity for understanding deeper ourselves. The participants get
a piece of a big cardboard in which they paint a river. The river symbolizes
the flow of life that has a start, a middle and an ending. Inside the river,
the participants write down the most important highlights of their lives,
moments that have shaped their characters and have influenced them in a
positive or a negative way.
The participants have a lot
of time to conclude this activity given that this is a process of introspection
of their entire life. During this process, they are in better position of
understanding their lives.
At the end, each participant that wish, can share their own stories and great moments of their "river" with the rest of the group.
