Human Rights Day activity

Each year, on December 10, people from around the world celebrate Human Rights day. This date was chosen to honor the United Nations General Assembly's adoption on 10 December 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

There is an activity that I've learned during an Erasmus Plus Programm that is dedicated to this day and is actually suitable for kids and adults.

Here are the instructions:

The participants are seperated at 4 groups and they are standing at 4 horizontal lines, the one behind the other. The facilitator places a basket in front of the first line. The first line that is closer to the basket gets red balls, the second line gets blue balls, the third line gets yellow balls and the last line that is more far from the basket gets green balls.

The groups have to throw as many balls as they can inside the basket.

Although, it is obvious that in the end, the most balls inside the basket will be the red balls, as they are standing much closer to the basket than the others.

This is a great opportunity to start a conversation with the participants on human rights and about the inequality between people depending where they "stand" in the society.
